Kate Careb - Chair
Kate Careb is a leading fundraising consultant and the President of her company, Kate Careb Advancement. Formerly Kate has held positions as Campaign Finance Director for Oz Griebel, Inc. and Vice President of Advancement at Special Olympics CT. She is a Stonington, Connecticut native who has spent most of her adult life working as an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities. Kate is intensely community-focused with specific interests in local affordable housing and battling the opioid crisis.
Kate has sat on the board of the Stonington Housing Authority for the last 5 years and is currently the Vice President. Additionally, Kate helped create and is a board member of the Greater Stonington Realty Corporation and is Vice President of the Board of Trustees of St. Edmunds Retreat and Recovery mission. Kate is happily married and has two, outstanding, college-aged daughters.
Julie Savin - Vice Chair
Julie Savin has been a leader in the Connecticut affordable housing arena for more than 30 years. As Connecticut closed many of its state institutions, she championed the concept of independent living for individuals with severe physical/developmental disabilities in SE CT in the 1990s. She then concentrated her passion for the concept of “developing housing for all” for the City of New Haven as Deputy Director by coordinating multi-departmental efforts to make neighborhoods safer and increase affordable housing opportunities in the City. Julie followed that experience with 9 years working for a New Haven nonprofit housing developer continuing her work in the New Haven neighborhoods and expanding these strategies back to the SE CT region, as Regional Real Estate Development Director.
She returned full time to SE CT in 2017 as the Vice President of Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities, Inc. based in New London, CT. In 2010, she was recognized by the CT Mortgage Bankers Association for Outstanding Achievement in Affordable Housing and awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the UCONN Department of Public Policy. In 2012, Julie received a proclamation from the City of New London for Anti-Blight Activities. She graduated from Connecticut College with a BA in Government and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Connecticut. She is a native of Stonington, CT and is raising her two sons in her home town while she serves on several boards and commissions, including the Stonington Housing Authority; Greater Stonington Realty Corporation; Connecticut Housing Coalition; and offers her services as a Justice of the Peace.
Beth Leamon - Treasurer
Elizabeth L. Leamon represents clients on a full range of estate settlement and estate planning matters. From simple to sophisticated estate plans, Beth works with families and individuals and tailors estate plans to meet each client’s needs, including wills, revocable trusts, special needs trusts, LGBT planning, and even trusts for pets. She also works with clients to develop succession plans for family businesses and real estate, asset protection, including pre- and post-marital agreements, and plans for charitable giving.
Prior to her practice of the law, she oversaw the French and U.S. retail sales and marketing of Quimper Falence and the Falenceries de Quimper HB-Henriot, importers and manufacturers of fine hand-painted earthenware. She is fluent in French and enjoys working with French-speaking clients.
Beth has lived and worked on the Connecticut shoreline most of her life. She currently lives in Stonington Borough with her husband, John, and children, Claire & Ted. She grew up in the Mystic area, attending Stonington Public Schools.
Kevin Beverly - Secretary
Kevin Beverly has been a resident of Stonington since 1974 when his family moved from Mystic. Having attended local schools through high school, he has gained an appreciation for the town and its' residents. He has been employed for a local building contractor as a carpenter for the past 23 years and is using his experience in the construction field and familiarity with the town to assist as a commissioner for the Stonington Housing Authority.
Kevin is married to his wife, Carolyn, of 22 years and has two daughters, one a freshman at Stonington High School and another a freshman at Fairfield University. For the past 3 years, he has served on the board of the Pawcatuck Little League, giving back to an organization which gave so much to him as a youngster growing up in Stonington.
